2018/19 Season Wrap

09th May 2019

Rivendale Turf has reached the end of their season again. We have put the frost blankets down and our turf is tucked up for the winter. We move on to the maintenance of equipment, prepare for the next season and look back on how we went.

There was a good start to Spring 2018. Summer soon kicked in though, bringing severe drought, extreme heat waves and water restrictions in nearly all areas, dragging well into Autumn. This made people very wary of putting down a new lawn.

However, we still did okay. Because we use only certified turf and we cut and deliver so quickly, establishment is easy, and our lawns make it through these tough conditions. We also assist people with advice on how to prepare for their turf and how to maintain it. There are a lot of resources, articles, and videos on our website.

With the drought on-going and now Winter well on its way, quiet times will inevitably be around for a while now. The whole New England and North West needs flooding rains for water restrictions to be lifted.

Last year we did a trial planting of a new turf variety TifTuf Bermuda. TifTuf is a low maintenance and drought resistance variety. It has a very fine leaf blade with dense growth, making it ideal for a wide variety of applications. Its density enables it to handle high wear situations like backyards and sports fields whilst its fine blade ensures shade tolerance and a very soft leaf to walk on.

The trial went well in our hot, low water conditions. We planted out commercial quantities and have it ready to sell this Spring.

We are still harvesting in the cooler months for those areas that don’t get the severe frosts, such as Moree and Goondiwindi.

Thanks to those customers who supported us this season.

Fingers crossed for everyone, for a VERY WET WINTER!
